Re-Elect ROSE SALAS Democratic National Committee-DNC
Re-Elect ROSE SALAS Democratic National Committee-DNC
Hello Fellow Delegate:
My name is Rose Salas and I ask for your support for re-election to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in the At-Large Female Position.
My reason for seeking this position is due to my proven record, experience and desire to continue working for Texas. As a life-long Texas Democrat, I have proven my dedication, hard work and service over the years. I was elected and unanimously reelected to represent Senate District 6 to serve on the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC), an honor I held for 14 years until I moved my place of residence to Senate District 7.
As a member of the SDEC I was appointed to serve on committees such as Grassroots, Platform, Convention, Finance, Rules and many other committees. My greatest accomplishment was the confidence and respect I earned from the former Texas Democratic Party Chairs Bob Slagle, Molly Beth Malcom, Charles Soechting, Boyd Ritchie and Gilberto Hinojosa. The consecutive reappointment as Chair of the TDP Rules Committee a position I held for 12 years is a testament to the trust and confidence these chairs have in me to do what is fair and just for Texas. During my tenure as Chair of the TDP Rules Committee in drafting proposed changes to the rules, I fought for inclusiveness, diversity and accountability and worked hand-in-hand with all groups and organizations across the state. For example, combining of the various Hispanic groups into one unified Hispanic Caucus; working closely with Labor, to ensure that wording which may seem to be a simple change from “convention” to “caucus” could have negatively affected the collective bargaining negotiations they fought for; Stonewall Democrats, an organization which during my first term of office I voted to support to add them as a member of the SDEC; Democrats with Disability to ensure that future convention sites local and state-wide were ADA compliant; and the Asian American Democrats to provide guidance on how to increase their membership and participation by using the state convention caucus system; and other organizations and caucuses.
As for my experience of working the the Democratic National Committee (DNC), some of you who may recall (and for those who were unaware) several years back, when the Democratic National Committee (DNC) contemplated eliminating the presidential primary caucus system known as the “Texas Two-Step Caucus”, an ad-hoc committee was formed where I served as Co-Chair along with Senator Royce West from Dallas. We and other committee members traveled across Texas for several months attending town-hall meetings listening to and gathering input from voters as to potential primary caucuses procedures in the event the DNC eliminated the Texas Two-Step. After these travels we prepared a comprehensive report and analysis to submit to the DNC. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the DNC declared that the Texas primary process could no longer be used resulting in our current caucus process of holding precinct caucuses in conjunction with our Senatorial District Conventions.
Over the years I have taken it upon myself to learn more about the Democratic National Committee by attending their meetings across the United States to learn about their inner working, what the issues are and how to fight for Texas. For many years the DNC has used Texas as an ATM machine for the rest of the country raising money here and leaving Texans to fend for ourselves.
Turning Texas Blue by electing our Democratic Candidates up and down the ballot is a top priority and it can be accomplished with strong, experienced leadership. I have and will continue to work hard to educate voters and fight for the development of means not hurdles to get them access to voting such as allowing all Texans the ability to vote by mail during this COVID-19 pandemic.
We must bring everyone to the table and enable them with the tools, programs and financial support necessary for success throughout the state. To do so you need someone like myself as your representative on the DNC, someone who has been there and has a proven track record of working hard for the State of Texas.
With your vote , you can be assured that your voice will be heard. I am not one to avoid a challenge which I approach with tact, diplomacy and integrity. I look forward to a successful virtual convention and respectfully ask for your vote for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Female At-Large position.
Respectfully,
ROSE SALAS
Re-Elect Rose to the
Democratic National Committee
TOGETHER WE CAN TURN TEXAS BLUE!
